Projects Suitable for Early Years
Nursery Rhymes
This can be done as two workshops for morning and afternoon nursery, or with Keystage One children over one day, leading to a performance to the school at the end.
A selection of nursery rhymes are chosen. The children are then put into small groups to make puppets, and make a visual sing-along performance. Storytelling sessions by some characters are also available.
The origins and explanations for many of these rhymes make for a fascinating commentary for older children and parents...not always entirely suitable for children of course!
Siren Songs and Mermaid Tales
For 3-7 year-olds.
An interactive puppet performance with a conservation theme.
The children make puppet birds and fishes in a workshop, to help a mermaid, who’s in trouble.
Fruit and Vegetable Circus
For 3 – 7 year-olds.
This is a project for Early Years and children in Keystage 1, to make puppets on the theme of healthy eating, and explore issues relating to diet, health and the body, through the anarchic and comical antics of the fruit and vegetable puppet characters they create.
Away with the Fairies
A new project involving fairy stories and puppet-making, for the very young. Children aged 3 – 7 can have writing workshops as an extension of the story performances and puppet-making.
